Do you know the 10 types of ukuleles?  

There are various types of ukuleles characterized by qualities, size, and sounds. 

The ukulele is a popular musical instrument that is similar to the standard acoustic guitar. The four-stringed instrument originated from Hawaii, and over the years, its popularity and usage have grown to almost every corner of the world. Although playing the ukulele is somewhat different from the standard guitar, this fantastic acoustic instrument offers a rich musical experience.

There are different types of ukuleles available on the market made to serve different musical needs. 

So, what are the ukulele types?

Typically, ukuleles resemble the standard acoustic guitars. However, there are various types of ukuleles characterized by qualities, size, and sounds. There four primary ukulele sizes, namely soprano, tenor, baritone, and concert.  However, there are other popular ukulele types that come in different sizes, shapes, materials, and number of strings. 

  1. Soprano ukulele 

This instrument is amongst the smallest ukuleles on the market; it measures 21 inches in length with a G-C-E-A standard tuning.   

  1. Concert Ukulele

The concert ukulele made in Hawaii is also small in size but bigger than the soprano. This instrument measures 23-inches and has a standard tuning of G-C-E-A. 

  1. Tenor ukulele

With a standard tuning of G-C-E-A, the tenor ukulele has a larger body than soprano and concert ukuleles. This instrument has a measurement of 30 inches in length. 

  1. Baritone ukulele

It measures 30 inches in length but slightly broader compared to the tenor ukulele. The baritone ukulele has a deeper and richer sound with a standard tuning of D-G-B-E. 

  1. Guitar ukulele

This instrument features six strings just like a standard guitar, and that explains the name. The guitar ukulele is also referred to as “guitarlele.” 

  1. Bass Ukulele

This Hawaiian-built Ukulele features a bass guitar tuning of (E-A-D-G) but the same body size and measurement as the baritone ukulele. 

  1. Banjo ukulele

Commonly known as “banjolele,” this musical instrument features a sound and body of banjo with a traditional ukulele size. 

  1. Electric ukulele

This ukulele supports electronic amplifying, just like the standard electric guitar. 

  1. Sopranino ukulele

This Hawaiian ukulele is very small in size and smaller than the soprano ukulele. It only measures 12 inches in length and has ten frets. 

  1. Pineapple ukulele

The pineapple ukulele has a rounder shape which makes it unique compared to the standard ukulele. It resembles pineapple in shape, but the design allows the instrument to produce a sweeter tone and louder sound.
