I’ve been playing ukulele for about five years, ever since I picked it up during COVID in 2020. After going through a couple of inexpensive instruments, I was finally ready to upgrade — but finding a store in Southern California with a good selection proved to be a challenge. Most places I visited had just a few ukes tucked among rows of guitars.
That changed when I discovered Island Bazaar in Huntington Beach. Shirley was incredibly helpful, guiding me through a range of Hawaiian brands like Kanile'a and KoAloha. But the standout for me was a koa tenor handcrafted by Phil Henderson at PCH. I was blown away — not only does it look and feel fantastic, but the sound is truly exceptional.
Big thanks to Shirley at Island Bazaar for the guidance, and to Phil for creating such a beautiful instrument.

Great selection of ukuleles. Got my first Kala tenor ukulele. Chad recommended a good one and got me going with a good starter setup.

This review has been a long time coming, and I write it with the utmost sincerity.
Shirley and Chad with Island Bazaar Ukuleles are two of the kindest individuals who also both love ukuleles. They are highly knowledgeable, patient, and accommodating. Shirley, the owner, went well out of her way to help me get my very first Hawaiian ukulele, a KoAloha. This ukulele makes me so happy. The tone and vibrations emanating are similar to hearing Brother Iz playing Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Keep in mind I have a long journey ahead, but this instrument motivates me to want to do and play better.
At home, I play morning and night, yet my girlfriend often takes the KoAloha ukulele from me, so she can play it herself. Because of this, I reached out to Shirley, and she helped get me a Kanilea. The Kanilea is beautiful, and it plays even better. But more importantly, my girlfriend and I can now practice and play together.
Mahalo Island Bazaar Ukulele’s for helping pave the road less traveled. I will continue to travel from Maui to Long Beach, California for all of my ukulele needs.
Mahalo nui loa and a hui hou.

Best place for buying a uke and playing with other people. The owner is a community leader who either runs or lets uke clubs play throughout the week. Anyone can join them and they do performances locally and some in Hawaii.

During a tough season of my life me and my dad found this little shop down in Huntington Beach called "Island Bazzar", we saw that they sell hawaiin made Ukuleles and decided to go down to check it out. This simple decision would then go on the change the course of my life as not only did I try out some top quality Ukuleles but also got involved in a community that would welcome me with open arms.
The community this place offers is far from mean or scary, infact they are the exact opposite, everyone there is so friendly and loving, they truly make you feel like you're a part of the store. To top it all off the events they host are perfect for beginner players and as a beginner player I learned so much from the people there.
In terms of instruments and what they sell, I'd describe this place as the Toys 'R' Us for Ukuleles, seriously! The walls are just lined with instruments, mainly nstruments from top brands like kala and Ohanah. Of course I can't forget the grand jewel of the store. The hawaiin made Ukuleles, all the top "K" brands are there, Kanile'a, koaloha, kamaka, pepe Romero, and some special appearances like Compass rose or PCH Ukuleles. Of course after working hard for it I got the money to spend on a Mango Koaloha Tenor which I absolutely love! The instrument came with a hard shell case upon purchase and the store's owner (Shirley Orlando) even gave me some good tips as to taking care of the instrument to insure that it lasts as long as it can.
Lastly, customer service, the workers there (Chad & Shirley) really have a way around these instruments and really know their stuff, not to mention how Chad always seems to make every ukulele sound really pretty, not only that but the workers are very helpful and are always willing to answer your questions when needed or even help you out.
Overall this shop is THE ukulele shop of SoCal, if you're interested in playing the ukulele don't buy and get lessons from guitar center, instead just visit Island Bazzar in Huntington Beach, not only will you get your money's worth but you'll be sure to learn a great deal there by attending their groups and taking a class. Not to mention the amazing community who are ready to welcome you with open arms!

Shirley Orlando is the leader of the pack and creates an atmosphere of fun, fun and more fun. The store is chock full of ukuleles and accessories necessary to begin your lifelong relationship with music. Friendly service and welcoming people! Come on down and give Island Bazaar a try, you won’t regret it.
