Check out this Phil Henderson Tenor Ukulele. It's Custom-Made with Oregon Myrtle Woods

This ukulele is Oregon Myrtle (aka California Bay Laurel)  from Pacific Coast Woods.  There is a small dark "heart" just below the bridge that my wife loves, hence the name.

Myrtle is a truly a wonderful tone wood. I took this and the "Wild Koa" tenor to a local Ukulele Festival and was able to get several very famous professional uke players to give them a try. All of them thought this myrtle had all the warmth of koa but with additional projection and articulation. I think the sound has a little more "color" as well.

I really like the color nuances of this back. I especially like the little upside down "war club" at the bottom.  Bindings, back strip and rosette are all East Indian rosewood.

The accents are a grainy slightly curly koa.  I love the silky look of the sides. Every time I look at myrtle I find something else pretty about it. I didn't see the waves going through the end graft until I posted this picture. Click on the pic to the right to get a better look.

The neck is Black Limba with a carbon reinforcement rod. Density is very similar to mahogany and sometimes blends better with mango or myrtle bodies, so I try to keep some around the shop at all times.

All PCH ukuleles come standard with a side sound port. It helps the player hear the same sound as his audience without sacrificing any performance.

The headstock is the same myrtle as the top. I was able to match the pieces to make it look like the flutes of an arrow. (use your imagination :) ) The tuners are black Gotoh Interplanetary tuners. Strings are a Pepe Romero wound low g string with custom high carbon fluorocarbon strings.
