Ukulele Groups and Classes at Island Bazaar
Island Bazaar offers weekly ukulele classes, jam groups, guitar sessions, and special music programs for players of many skill levels.
Whether you are picking up an instrument for the first time, building confidence as a beginner, or looking for more advanced musical challenges, you will find a welcoming group of musicians ready to play, learn, and have fun together.
Island Bazaar also offers a selection of quality ukuleles and accessories from respected brands including KoAloha, Kamaka, Kanileʻa, Kala, Ohana, and more.
Monday Night Groups
Double Dozen Uke Jam
When: 1st and 3rd Mondays
Time: 6:30–8:00 PM
Cost: $10 per session
Group Leader: Ed Fagenson
Double Dozen features popular songs and familiar standards arranged for relaxed group playing. The group is a good fit for beginners and experienced players who enjoy kicking back, strumming along, and making music with others.
Music will be available as downloadable files or printed packets.
Paradise Pickers
When: 2nd and 4th Mondays
Time: 6:00–8:00 PM
Cost: $10 per session
Group Leader: Horacio de Jesus
Paradise Pickers explores more advanced ukulele techniques, including fingerpicking and reading tablature.
This group is intended for players who are ready to move beyond basic chords and develop more detailed instrumental skills.
Tuesday Night Group
Kolohe Ukulele Club
When: Tuesday evenings
Time: 6:00–8:00 PM
Cost: $10 per two-hour session
Group Leader: Doug Ramsay
The Kolohe Ukulele Club focuses on authentic Hawaiian music performed with warmth, personality, and a little island flair.
Join Doug Ramsay and the stage crew for an evening filled with a rich repertoire of Hawaiian and island favorites.
Wednesday Night Ukulele Classes
Easy Breezy I, Easy Breezy II and Beyond Beginner
When: Wednesday evenings
Class Times: Between 6:00 and 7:00 PM
Tuition: $89 for a six-week class

Our Wednesday evening ukulele classes offer a comfortable, step-by-step way to learn and improve.
Easy Breezy I
Easy Breezy I is designed for new players who want to develop a solid foundation. Students learn essential ukulele chords, practical strumming patterns, and familiar songs in a friendly and encouraging setting.
Easy Breezy II
Easy Breezy II builds on the skills introduced in the first class. Students continue developing smoother chord changes, better rhythm, additional songs, and greater confidence playing with others.
Beyond Beginner
Beyond Beginner is intended for players who already understand basic chords and strumming. The class introduces more advanced strumming patterns, techniques, and musical skills.
The Easy Breezy program includes approximately:
- 20 useful ukulele chords
- 20 familiar songs
- Four practical strumming patterns
- Guided practice in a supportive group environment
Thursday Night Ukulele Jam
When: Thursday evenings
Time: 6:30–8:00 PM
Cost: $10 per session
Jam Leader: Shirley Orlando
Swing the uke with songs from the Great American Songbook, classic rock-and-roll favorites, and memorable music from several decades.
Join Shirley Orlando and the stage crew for an upbeat evening of group strumming and singing.
Monthly Gospel Night
When: Last Friday of each month
Time: 6:00–7:30 PM
Admission: Free-will offering at the door
Gospel Night brings musicians and singers together to enjoy well-known gospel songs in a welcoming group setting.
Guest performers and special musical presentations may also be included.
Please call before attending to confirm the meeting date. Holiday schedules and other circumstances may occasionally require cancellation.
Saturday Morning Guitar Strum
When: 1st and 3rd Saturdays
Time: 11:00 AM–12:30 PM
Cost: $10 per session
Group Leader: Horacio de Jesus
Join Horacio de Jesus and the group for a Saturday morning acoustic guitar strum featuring great songs and guitar standards from many eras.
This is a relaxed group-playing session for guitarists who enjoy making music with others.
Sunday Ukulele Groups
Surf City Strummers
When: Sundays
Time: 2:00–4:00 PM
Group Leader: Shirley Orlando
Surf City Strummers plays popular hits and familiar favorites spanning several decades.
Join Shirley Orlando and the stage crew for good songs, friendly people, and an enjoyable afternoon of group music.
The group may be closed on holidays.
Easy Dozen
When: 1st and 3rd Sundays
Time: 2:00–4:00 PM
Easy Dozen is designed for beginners who want to start playing with a ukulele group without feeling intimidated.
The songs use easy chords and approachable arrangements, helping newer players gain confidence while enjoying the experience of making music with others.
