The Origin of the Tiny Tenor Ukulele from Romero Creations
The concept of the Tiny Tenor emerged from a conversation between world-renowned 'ukulele virtuoso Daniel Ho and Pepe Romero, where they discussed the desirable qualities of 'ukuleles, including portability, playability, and sound. They pondered whether it was possible to create an instrument that excelled in all these aspects.
The question arose: Could a tenor 'ukulele be crafted to the size of a concert 'ukulele without compromising its sound quality?
Portability was deemed crucial, and master luthier Pepe Romero took the reins. He reduced the headstock size and positioned the tenor neck closer to the body, maximizing the resonance of the top by optimizing the placement of the bridge.
To enhance sound quality, the design focused on maximizing the pumping area of the top, ensuring it retained the acoustic resonance of a tenor body rather than resembling the smaller concert body. This involved eliminating the waist and accentuating the arch of the back.
Considering playability, Daniel emphasized the importance of a wider butt for resting the forearm while playing.
Thus, the concept of the Tiny Tenor was born: a compact 'ukulele boasting a powerful, crisp tone, comfortable feel, and convenient proportions.
